Who?
This broad spectrum course is open to those who feel called to the ministry of accompanying others on the spiritual journey. It will also be appropriate for those engaged in pastoral work of any description, particularly when this involves accompanying people their on-going journey of faith whether expressed explicitly or implicitly. We envisage it being useful for spiritual directors, ministers, catechists, pastoral workers, chaplains. It is also appropriate for anyone simply seeking to follow a focused year on personal spiritual development.
The course does not make people spiritual directors, however successful completion of the course will enable the gifts and tools of accompaniment in each person, if they discern that this is a path they feel called to. It is expected that some basic training has previously been undertaken in listening and reflection.
How
The group will journey together following a theme each day, listening, learning, praying, creating, and practising together to become people who may offer spiritual accompaniment to others. This year, the input will focus on a seminar style of learning, with the material and reading list being available in advance.
The course will meet over 20 Mondays, 9.30 – 4.30 and two residential weekends ( dates tbc) at Emmaus House, Gilmore Place, Edinburgh
Cost
This depends on the number participating. It is our aim to make it as affordable as possible. It will be in the region of £800. Some churches contributed to participants cost in the past.
The course will be led by Mrs Thérèse McHugh Pratt and visiting tutors
Thérèse Pratt is a spiritual director, retreat giver, and trainer. She has led retreats and courses in personal and spiritual development for twenty-five years, and has designed and delivered extended courses in spiritual direction. She has a Masters degree in Theology from the University of Edinburgh, and is an experienced psychotherapist in the Jungian and Integrative tradition. She spent some years in a basic Christian Community in the 70s, and later spent some months of sabbatical leave living alongside a contemplative community, studying meditation and the contemplative way. Her research interest is how spirituality through the ages has enabled the development of the Self as understood in the works of CG Jung. Married to Mark, Thérèse lives in East Lothian.
An enquiry day will take place in June.
